Sukhoi Civil Aircraft introduced a VIP version of its Superjet 100 last week at the Farnborough International Airshow specifically designed to fly professional sports teams. Dubbed SportJet, the concept is enhanced by medical and IT solutions—developed with sports physicians, experts and managers—to reduce jet lag, hypoxia, dehydration, stress on the body and aerophobia. The sport interior is expected to be certified in 2018.

According to Sukhoi, the sports air transportation market now exceeds $600 million per year, making it a lucrative niche for the aircraft manufacturer. “We are sure that flights for professional sports teams on SportJets will eventually become an integral part of the air transportation market,” said Evgeny Andrachnikov, senior vice president of commerce at Sukhoi Civil Aircraft.

Meanwhile, Sukhoi plans to open its first overseas office in Beijing to expand into new markets and promote sales of the Superjet 100 regional airliner, Sukhoi BusinessJet and SportJet. “China is a highly promising commercial aviation market, and its potential grows year by year,” said Sukhoi Civil Aircraft president Ilya Tarasenko.

Sukoi also delivered a pair of Sukhoi Business Jets on Friday to the Royal Thai Air Force, which will use the bizliners to transport Thai top officials and government leaders.
